Many of you will be reading this on Sunday morning with the Leavers2Leaders group on their way from Singapore to Manila.
With the group prepared and everything on schedule this week, I thought that the last couple of days before the trip would be plain sailing. Not so!
A call late on Friday afternoon from generous donor Louis Moncrieff saying ‘We got eight laptops, some tablets and some more ICT gear for you to take to the Philippines! Are you interested?’ was all I needed to race over to their Victoria Park warehouse to pick up the gifts for our trip.
We are so grateful for any donations, and ICT equipment is a really vital part of any Filipino student’s quest for education.
After thanking Louis for his gifts, he remarked ‘Actually, its very quite fortunate. The end of the year is the best time to come knocking on our door.’
Older brother William Moncrieff typified the Moncrieff’s philanthropic spirit as he packed all the computers into my car:
‘We are just trying to do our little bit for these people that you help. I hope the students have a great time.’
One of my favourite hymns opens with the lines:
There shall be showers of blessing:
This is the promise of love;
There shall be seasons refreshing,
Sent from the Saviour above.
As I was driving back to work late in the day, I couldn’t help but think of these lyrics as I imagined how all of these computers would be used by Filipino students in the communities of Sagay, Cabacungan and and the ATI school in Boracay each day for many years. The Lord has certainly provided so much for us this year and we are thankful for his blessings at this time.
Thank you Moncrieff ICT for your donations and your willingness to help those around you!
