Ellenbrook: Our Final Day – The Last Post

The crew left “Beulah Land” after saying their goodbyes to Ate (aunty) Dina and her wonderful crew for feeding us all week and Pr Dave and his wife who own the house in Cabacungan and wound their way back over the bumpy back roads and through the sugarcane and rice paddy fields to the city of La Carlota where they met up with the Southern Hills guys and then continued the trip back to the city of Bacolod. The cramped conditions on the bus did not dampen their spirits as they sang loudly to the tunes provided by Mr Pitman and Sqelchy. (wonderful Swan crew).  Once arrived at Go Hotels, we  spent the afternoon going to Robinsons Mall for lunch and then off to the 888 Chinese Markets to find a bargain. It was great to see that the combined Swan/Ellenbrook crew was one big group and considered everyone their mate.

Now with an even larger crew the excitement built towards the last evening of celebration with bbq food and live music to dance the night away. Students and teachers got up to share the stage with the band as they celebrated their amazing time together. What a way to finish the trip.

This is my first trip to the Philippines and I have been so impressed by the organisation of this amazing adventure that is called Leavers 2 Leaders and I would personally like to thank Giles Creelman, Paul and Greg Beacham for their amazing talents in organising this trip from the Perth end and of course Pr Gary Visitacion for all his work behind the scenes here in the Philippines to make sure everything runs smoothly while the crew is on the ground.

I have been so impressed by the character of the students, they stepped up when they needed to and supported one another. They have honoured the school and have displayed a calibre that is mature and thought provoking. Yet, they have a great capacity to have fun and we all have made many great friends with the Swan crew that accompanied us to Cabacungan and it didn’t take long to become one big amazing family.  When I mentioned to them that the piano/keyboard at the iRC in Cabagungan was broken they generously gave of their personal cash and so we have nearly 25,000 peso (AU$652) to donate for their amazing worship services.

Thank you also to Greg Beacham, Rachel  Thayer, Dave Pitman and Sqwelchy (Christina Welch) for being such a great team and now good mates. I love you all.

I would like to thank God for His amazing love and protection over this whole trip, the spiritual tone has been so encouraging with students having many Phat Chats (deep and meaningful) that were often spiritual and thought provoking.

Lastly, I would like to thank, you, parents who have entrusted your children to me (and the team) and allowing them to join an amazing life changing adventure.

Please pray for safe travel over the next 24 hours.

Arrival details are as follows:

SQ 525 – 5:25am Wednesday 28th November.

Signing off

  1. Thank you to all that went on this amazing journey – students and staff. You have all shown open hearts, a value that is to be treasured . May you all be blessed for this.
Also many thanks to the staff who take time away from their own family to care for our children on this trip.
